Climate
The Ammassalik area has a surprisingly mild climate free of extremes, as shown by the chart (Danish Met.Instit.) in the coldest winter months temps are typically between -5C and -15C whilst summer temps are seldom more than 10C on average.
Highest snowfall (and in recent years,sleet/rain) occurs November to March and this period is one of short daylight and frequent storms, including the Piteraq- a katabatic wind which can exceed hurricane force. April to September is thus the most benign period for warmer and sunnier conditions.
The most important characteristic of the weather in Greenland is nevertheless, variability-local conditions can change several times during any given day.
